SIZE OF THE BARGAINING UNIT: 124.
LOCATION: Oklahoma City for AVN (Aviation System
Standards), AOS (Operational Support)-200 and 510; Atlantic City for
AOS-260/270.
THEY ARE: AOS Engineering develops modifications and
maintenance procedures for NAS equipment, provides national level field
support, and maintains the configuration management of NAS Surveillance,
Navigation and Communication systems . AVN engineering provides
modification and maintenance instructions for the fleet of flight
inspection aircraft. This includes creation of designs, including
drawings, reports, and Supplemental Type Certificates.
STATUS: NATCA won elections for the groups AVN, AOS-200
and AOS-510. FLRA certification was issued for AOS-200 on May 22, 2000
amended to include AOS-260/270 on Sept. 28, 2000, for AOS-510 and AVN on
July 14, 2000. These units were combined with the Engineers and
Architects Unit on April 30, 2002 (WA-RP-01-0106) .
INTEREST TO NATCA: They provide invaluable equipment
restoration services for ATC, assisting in restoring systems when there
is an outage. They perform site testing, evaluating new systems prior to
becoming operational. They are often aware of potential equipment
problems or outages before they are exposed by others. AVN engineering
provides essential support for NAVAIDs flight inspections.
